The DOTr extends railway line trips for today (March 6) amidst the Jeepney strike

The Jeepney strike against the PUV modernization program began this morning (March 6, 2023). With the sudden loss of rotating Jeepneys around the metro, transport agencies like the DOTr have been planning and implementing measures that will help commuters today.

DOTr extends railway line operation for March 6

Apart from the Libre Sakay programs of the MMDA and LGUs the DOTr has extended the trips and operation of the railway lines.

Undersecretary for Railways Cesar B. Chavez said the railway lines that are ready to extend their trips include the Philippine National Railways (PNR), the Metro Rail Transit-3 (MRT-3), and the Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2 (LRT-1 and 2).
“The PNR has now 14 trainsets from seven in August 2022. With the transport strike, it will extend its operation by adding 14 trips today, March 6, making the total trips to 60 from 46,” Chavez said, citing a report from the PNR management. It will also add one trip from Tutuban Station and extend its trip departing at 8:46 p.m. from 7:46 p.m., he added.

He went on further to say that the MRT-3 is ready to extend its operation for the last trip from North Avenue Station until 10:00 pm, and from Taft Avenue Station until 10:41 pm if necessary.
Meanwhile, Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) Spokesperson Jacqueline Gorospe assured the DOTr, through Chavez, that they are prepared to ensure service and manpower availability for LRT-1. The LRT-2’s regular trip from Recto Station is until 9:30 p.m. If extended, the last trip will be until 10:00 p.m.
So there you have it, the trains will be operating just that little bit longer today to help everyone out.
