Meralco opens 1st Electric Car Charging Station

Yesterday, Meralco officially opened it’s first public charging station for electric cars. Officially called Meralco eVehicle Power Station, the charging station is located inside the Meralco Compound in Pasig City.

As more and more electric cars and hybrid cars are being sold in the Philippines, the need for more accessible charging stations like this one becomes evident.

Electric vehicles like the eTrikes in Taguig and the eJeepneys that ply the routes of Makati are the among the few ones that will benefit from this, alongside other commercial units from Honda or Toyota. On a related note, the hybrid Honda CR-Z will be launching next week with a starting price of Php1.4USD 0.02INR 2EUR 0.02CNY 0.17 Million.

Charging is done on a “per kilowatt” basis with a flat rate of about Php12USD 0.20INR 17EUR 0.20CNY 1/kWHr.

  1. Its about time they consider that… but come to think of it why dnt MVP invest on the car that was runned by water instead kesa gumagaya tayo sa ibang bansa

*I’ll admit mdyo outdated ang info ko but what happened to the Pinoy Scinetist named Dingel ???

  5. the question is, gano katagal mag charge?

    • actually it really takes time, about 8-12 hrs depending on the car itself kaya di pa rin economical gumamit ng electric car pero in the next years probably by 2020 we can now charge anything in just few seconds! =))

It should be built in Taguig or Makati, para makinabang ang ejeepneys at etrycs.

Do you think MVP will pay them kapag nagpa charge yan ng kotse nya? I don’t think so…loss na yan, at lalabas yan sa electric bill natin. Tsk tsk tsk

    • Sorry bench pero that was indeed a dumb post.

  7. so, si MVP ang first and only customer? hehe’

Tesla Model S offers 60 kWh and 85kWh batteries which translates to Php 720 and Php 1020 for a “full tank” (assuming that’s how the battery becomes full…)

60 kWh model can run up to 330 kilometers while to 85 kWh 426 kilometers… (km rating is running on a constant 20mph) [see Tesla Motor’s page]
