The new 2020 Honda Civic Type R will be arriving in the US soon, with improved performance, Honda Sensing driver-assistive technology, and the new LogR app.
The 2020 Honda Civic Type R comes with an updated front grille design that has 13% larger openings. Along with the new radiator core, the coolant temperature is decreased by 13°F in high-demand scenarios. The new grille also acts with the new ribbed sections on the left and right sides to deflect air into the redesigned spoiler.
The suspension has also been updated for better handling. It works hand-in-hand with the Adaptive Damper System’s software to give users better cornering and control.
As for the breaks, Honda has upgraded from the single-piece front brake rotor to the new two-piece rotors gripped by brake pads. The actuation distance for the brake pedal is also reduced and now requires 17% less play before the brake engages.
In terms of performance, the 2020 Civic Type R comes with an in-line 4-cylinder 2L engine with a turbocharger capable of 23.2 psi boost pressure. It has a 306 horsepower at 6500rpm and a torque of 295lb-ft at around 2,500-4,500 rpm.
Lastly, the interior has been updated. The new steering wheel now uses Alcantara wrapping, and the knob on the shift lever has been restyled similarly to the 1997 Civic Type R. Sound-wise, the Civic Type R also comes with Active Sound Control that enhances engine sound.
The 2020 Honda Civic Type R will also come with Honda’s new performance logger for Type R vehicles, the LogR. It has three main functions: Performance Monitor, a Log Mode, and Auto Score Mode.
The Performance Monitor will display real-time info of the car, including coolant and oil temp, oil and atm pressure, engine intake air temp, and gear position. The Log Mode helps drivers get their best times on the track. Using internal sensors, the LogR will display information regarding acceleration, braking, cornering, and other parameters. Lastly, the LogR also has the Auto Score feature. This monitors the driver’s behavior over time and generates a score for each category (including acceleration, deceleration, and steering).
As for safety, the 2020 Honda Civic Type R has all the Honda Sensing features including:
- Collision Mitigation Braking System
- Road Departure Mitigation System
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Lane Keeping Assist System
- Traffic Sign Recognition
- Honda LaneWatch
- Blind Spot Information System
- Cross Traffic Monitor
- Auto High-Beam Headlights
The new Civic Type R will arrive in US Honda dealerships on February 28, with an MSRP of USD 36,995, not including taxes and destination charges.
