Sad day for Angkas patrons: the Supreme Court has ordered a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) over a Regional Trial Court’s decision to allow Angkas to operate, allowing the LTFRB to stop the on-demand motorcycle booking service again.
The higher court’s two-page order, released December 5, blocks the Mandaluyong City Regional Trial Court’s grant for a preliminary injunction against a government-led shutdown of Angkas operations as a motorcycle hailing platform. The order also gives power back to the Land Transportation and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to apprehend motorcycle drivers that use the platform.
In 2017, the LTFRB has ordered Angkas to cease operations multiple times for non-compliance and road accidents, leading to questions about the safe-worthiness of their service. The company since then rebranded to an express delivery service, Angkas
ABS-CBN News sources noted that the LTFRB will be holding a meeting later today to discuss this matter. Angkas has yet to issue a statement regarding this matter.
