CAVITEX prepares to go cashless, dry-run at 2 new toll plazas starts September 14

Joining the push for cashless toll collection are two CAVITEX toll plazas, namely those in Paranaque and Kawit. As part of the 12th batch of dry-runs, the R-1 Expressway (Paranaque) and R-1 Extension Expressway (Kawit) will put RFID readers in place to facilitate a smooth and efficient implementation of the anticipated fully-cashless plazas. Here’s what you need to know.

CAVITEX Paranaque and Kawit toll plazas will go on cashless dry-run on September 14

For starters, this will affect those who do not have Easytrip tags installed because that is the RFID that the CAVITEX network uses. That said, the tollgates at the Paranaque and Kawit toll plazas will be using readers to automatically raise and lower the booms. There will still be a few cash lanes that will remain open, though, and here’s what motorists who might be led to these lanes should expect.

In the words of the Toll Regulatory Board, “motorists with no RFID Stickers shall be directed to a safe place/location where he can pay the toll fees in cash, and shall be persuaded to have an RFID sticker installed”. This simply means that once you enter CAVITEX with no valid Easytrip RFID tag, you may have to have one installed right then and there. This will be facilitated by official employees of Metro Pacific Tollways and/or Easytrip, of course. Make sure you don’t just hand your payments to anyone, yes?

The dry-run coincides with the issuance of Joint Memorandum Circular (JMC) no. 2024-01 that seeks to penalize those with no RFID tags or have insufficient load. This policy was originally scheduled to be enforced starting August 31, 2024, but has since been postponed to October 1, 2024. A lot more planning has been deemed necessary before putting this system in place, and that has bought motorists more time to get their RFID matters sorted.

We can probably expect more toll plazas added to these two along CAVITEX to join the dry-run in the coming weeks, so best we prepare. Should you have the need to do so, you can check our RFID Installation Site Guide for where you can have your tags installed. It’s always best to have them already, yes?
