Cebu-Cordova Bridge scheduled to open this month after 4-year construction

Traveling between Cebu City and Cordova is about to get easier. After four years of construction, the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway Corporation (CCLEX) announced that the like-named Cebu-Cordova bridge is on track for its scheduled opening at the end of this month. Per the official social media channels of CCLEX, no specific date has been announced, but it was clear that “the PHP 30B toll bridge is eyed to be opened to motorists by end of April 2022”.

The landmark project spans 8.5 kilometers and connects Cebu City and Cordova municipality in Mactan Island. It will have two lanes in each direction with viaduct approach bridges, a causeway, and toll facilities. No, traversing along the bridge is not free. The project not only connects both towns but is envisioned to increase economic activity in Cebu and the rest of Visayas as it is expected to serve around 50,000 vehicles daily.

Currently, cover piping and ducting, construction of safety barriers, and asphalting of different sections are all that remain for most of the bridge. On the Cordova side, pavement works and assembly of canopies are also being done. To ensure ease of entry and exit, there will be four toll lanes in each direction that use RFIDs for toll collection.

The Cebu-Cordova Bridge may be one of the hallmarks of the current administration’s “Build, Build, Build” thrust. Actually, it’s been more of “Bridge, Bridge, Bridge”. We’re really not complaining, though. As long as it helps our motoring public, it’s all good.
