6-month EDSA-Kamuning Flyover Repair: All the important info MMDA wants you to know

The 6-month rehabilitation of the EDSA-Kamuning Flyover is well underway, and the MMDA has just released information that’s important for everyone to know while repair works are being done. From rerouting schemes and updates to vehicles allowed to use the passable lanes below the flyover, here’s what you need to keep in mind until October 1 (and hopefully not later than that).

MMDA advisory regarding EDSA-Kamuning Flyover repairs

In case you missed it, the southbound portion of the EDSA-Kamuning Flyover has been closed for repairs as of yesterday, May 1. With the repairs scheduled to take place until October (the government hopes to reopen the flyover to traffic on October 25).

Aside from the alternate routes that we’ll get to shortly, the biggest traffic adjustment that the Metro Manila Development Authority will implement for the next 6 months is the prohibition of motorcycles from using the EDSA-Kamuning Service Road, and this begins tomorrow, Friday, May 3. That said, motorcycles will be guided towards alternate routes such as Scout Borromeo, Panay Avenue, Mother Ignacia Avenue, and Scout Albano.

“This move is to lessen the traffic on Kamuning service road. All vehicles, including motorcycles, are urged to use the alternate routes,” said MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Don Artes.

Of course, these alternate routes won’t be restricted only to motorcycles, and those with motor vehicles can use them to avoid EDSA. So let’s get to these routes, shall we?

“Even though the flyover will be partially closed during the rehabilitation, it will still be passable to public utility buses on the EDSA bus carousel. Although the southbound lane of the Kamuning flyover will not be entirely closed, we are advising the motorists, especially private vehicles, to use the Mabuhay Lanes as alternate routes to avoid heavy traffic expected due to the re-decking works,” MMDA‘s Artes said on the flyover’s closure to vehicular (except buses) traffic.

To help guide vehicles, more MMDA traffic enforcers will be deployed to better manage and guide passing motorists and more directional and traffic signages will likewise be installed to guide them into the identified alternate routes. The QC LGU will also intensify clearing operations along Mabuhay Lanes and other identified alternate routes to ensure they are safe and passable.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will begin the by-phase retrofitting of the southbound lane of the EDSA-Kamuning flyover to strengthen the bridge and avoid further damage as preventive measures against natural disasters like earthquakes. Furthermore, it is expected to be fully opened to vehicular traffic on October 25.

6 whole months, folks. May the odds be ever in your – OUR – favor.
