Will Ford Ranger PHEV, along with many other new EVs, enter and electrify PH in 2025?

The Ford Ranger PHEV was originally slated to debut early this year. This much was declared by Ford in September 2023, but in a stroke of brilliance, it was actually released a year after in September 2024. Okay, its relevance to us is? Here’s something to butter up the local Ford scene: according to Ford PH’s big boss, the brand has a lot of plans for the country, and that includes new electrified offerings. If that’s something to go by, then maybe, just maybe, the Ranger PHEV is coming first among a lot of others. Really?

2025 release of Ford Ranger PHEV might have Philippines in the list

Under the (new) leadership of Pedro Simoes who has taken over the Managing Director role of Ford PH, it seems the brand wants to capitalize on its strong performance in 2024. Just how does it plan to do that? By way of new, electrified products that will be added to their local lineup, that’s how. While specifics have yet to be mentioned, the fact that a learning facility that means to enhance the technical expertise of Ford technicians and allow for adequate space for Electric Vehicle (EV) training programs, as well as non-technical training for dealer sales and service personnel is in the pipe already speaks volumes.

The Ford Ranger PHEV looks to be the most logical choice for the first if not the earliest electrified model to be brought in seeing as it has only continued gaining a cult following in the Philippines since it was first released here. Should the hybrid version of the Ford Ranger be introduced, it will not only set the precedent for electrified pickups in the country, but it will surely gain a stronger foothold in its current market share of the truck-loving public.

The Mustang nameplate is not new to electrification either. We say “nameplate” because the while the Mustang Mach-E does exist, it’s not exactly the brute of a coupe/tourer/muscle car (heck, its looks have gone through so many changes it’s getting hard and confusing to keep up!) that we’ve come to know. There have always been rumors swirling of an electrified Mustang, and if that ever does become reality, that is one model that would properly compliment the Ford Ranger PHEV in the Philippines.

Another stretch, if we were to really be overly-optimisitic, is an electric version of the Bronco. We get it, it is different from the Ranger, but what we cannot deny is the fact that given their purpose and inherent capabilities as toys for the beaten path, and if the Ford Ranger with electrical and battery bits can make it, why can’t the Bronco, right? Again, overly optimistic, but who knows? Ford hasn’t been stingy with surprises in the past years, after all.

These three models being mentioned, all of them have contributed to Ford’s success in the past year. The 7th generation Mustang, launched with 2 variants, the 5.0-liter GT Premium Fastback with a starting retail price of PHP 3,999,000USD 69,063INR 6,022,094EUR 65,704CNY 501,075, and the 2.3-liter EcoBoost Premium Fastback that starts at PHP 3,499,000USD 60,428INR 5,269,144EUR 57,489CNY 438,425, upheld its legacy as a symbol of power and performance.

And then there’s the All-New Bronco in the Outer Banks variant with Sasquatch Package that retails at PHP 4,998,000USD 86,315INR 7,526,488EUR 82,117CNY 626,249. For all that you’re getting with the Outer Banks variant with Sasquatch Package (which includes Advanced 4×4 with On-Demand Engagement with its G.O.A.T. [Goes Over Any Type of Terrain] Modes, High Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension (HOSS) System with Position-sensitive Bilstein Shock Absorbers, 4.7 Final Drive Ratio with Electronic-locking Front and Rear Axle, and 17″ Black High Gloss-Painted Aluminum with Warm Alloy Beauty Ring and Beadlock Capable Wheels) it truly is worth more than what’s on paper.

And of course, there’s the new Ford Ranger Raptor 3.0L V6 that came with a 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo EcoBoost engine that produces 397 HP and 583 Nm of torque that’s mated to a performance-tuned 10-speed automatic transmission with an anti-lag system available in Baja mode intended for off-road use only.

Quite the lineup additions for the past year, yes?

At this point, we’re really leaning towards the likelihood of the Ford Ranger PHEV to come in. Whether it’s the plans for local infrastructure or expansion, or in keeping up with Ford’s forward steps worldwide, the Ford Ranger is the most logical choice for the Philippines. Besides, you can’t truly be a PHEV without “PH” in it, right?

Badum-tss!
