Fuel Price Update, September 24, 2024 – Increase for diesel, a little more for gas this week

Last week’s big-time fuel price rollback will not start a streak. Sort of. That’s because this week, we can expect a price increase for gasoline and diesel products. This week’s price adjustments will still make gas more expensive by PHP 1.10 and diesel by a more modest PHP 0.20. It could have been much worse, though, so this can still be considered good news.

Gas and diesel fuel prices go on a split adjustment tomorrow

We always get our hopes up, especially after a significant fuel price hike, that a streak will continue to bring gas and diesel prices down. The past years saw prices of both products skyrocket post-pandemic and for a time, it seemed that the rise won’t stop. It has, though, but still not enough for us to “enjoy” pre-pandemic prices. That notwithstanding, tomorrow’s hike will make diesel a little bit more expensive and gas a bit more expensive per liter. The former increases by PHP 0.20 and the latter by PHP 1.10 per liter.

As we’ve come to expect, the different brands will implement the fuel price adjustments at different times. The earliest to update its pumps will include Seaoil, Unioil, Petron, Caltex, and Shell. These stations will reflect new prices at 6:00 AM tomorrow, September 24, 2024. As its common practice, Cleanfuel will do so later in the day, at 4:01 PM.

We’ve said it a few times, and we still believe that now may be a good time to look at what the automotive industry is leading towards, and that’s electrification. Earlier this year both hybrids and plug-in hybrids got an exemption for import duty taxes via a new EVIDA update. As we speak, these types of vehicles have already made adjustments in their prices. Perhaps this makes them just that little bit more affordable and attractive, yes?

This notwithstanding, here’s to hoping that fuel prices go down for both gas and diesel next week. It never hurts to hope, right?
