Apparently Honda wanted Nissan to stop e-Power hybrid technology as part of deal

Just last week after what seemed like a possibility, the Nissan-Honda merger talks were first suspended and then officially cancelled. Now multiple reports and insights are coming out about the doomed merger that were the possible deal breakers for both parties. It has already been reported that Honda wanted to make Nissan a subsidiary brand, and a new detail with major impacts has just come to light.

Honda wanted to stop e-Power?

According to a report by The Japan News, Honda actually suggested that Nissan get rid of their revolutionary hybrid technology the e-Power. This was apparently a suggestion in order for Nissan to adopt Honda’s own hybrid tech, and this of course caused a further wrinkle in the brand’s merger talks.

While the merger is no longer pushing through, it seems both brands will still come together to work on electric cars. In hindsight, the closure of the e-Power program would have been a struggle considering how committed Nissan is to the technology, in fact, part of the post-closure announcement was to double down on e-Power.

They mentioned how they would be launching more e-Power-focused models with improved efficiency overall. Honda is also making their own strides with their own e:HEV technology, and in fact has also launched more electrified models in the Philippines.
