In August this year, the LTO was pretty advanced in declaring a vehicle registration extension. At the time, plates ending in 8, 9, and 0 were given an additional month to get registered. Fast forward to today and after “8” got a further extension, owners of plates ending in “9” are getting the same treatment.
Vehicle registration for “9” plates extended by LTO until end of month
The LTO announced that those with vehicle license plates ending in “9” will have until the end of this month to get registered. The post can be found on the government agency’s official Facebook page, but of course, we’ve gone ahead and posted the exact infographic for your reference.
It definitely seems to have become the norm; since the pandemic, such extensions have constantly been given for registering vehicles and even for driver’s licenses and student permit validities.
We cannot stress enough, though, that this is not a reason to just put it off for the last minute. We also know that despite the pandemic, travel has become more unrestricted, as is crowd control. Sadly, the Filipinos’ ningas-kugon mentality may mean that a lot will flock to LTO offices at the last minute. That means the possibility of crowding, and that’s just not a good thing at all.
Right, that said, try to get it done as soon as you can. An extension such as this is not an excuse for being lazy, nor should it come at the price of a very real health risk. Extensions are good, and they simply mean giving more time for more people to get their business with the LTO sorted out.
Use your time wisely, everyone. It’s not a requirement to follow the extension, after all.
