Authority has it that Geely Radar RD6 Pickup almost certain to enter PH market

The Geely Radar RD6 first blipped on the, err, radar, about two years ago. To date, Geely still has a pretty solid footing in the PH, and both clamor and rumors for the brand to bring in its electrified pickup steadily albeit quietly grew. Its entry has all but been confirmed, it seems, as the LTO itself has released a Memorandum Circular showing (some of) its specs and its classification. This is what we know so far.

In the LTO’s Memorandum Circular No. VDM-2024-2754, the subject is specifically stated to be “Specification and Classification of Radar RD6 four (4) wheeled electric vehicle”. Now we don’t know about the others out there, but there’s only one Radar RD6 that’s also a 4-wheeled electric vehicle that we know of, and that of course is from Geely.

In the said document, the specs of Geely’s electrified pickup has been lined up and those details are what you can find just below this sentence.

The Radar RD6 is, indeed, a five-seater and measures in with a length of 5.26m, a width of 1.9m, and a height of 1.83m. It has a wheelbase of 3.12m and a ground clearance of about 9.5 inches. Aside from these numbers, no specifics were mentioned about its exterior, except that it will have 225/65/R17 wheels and tires.

But the most important information we do have is about its power plant. It will have a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery that has an AC outlet charging time of 7 hours; charging via a DC outlet, on the other hand, can be done in just 1 hour. Maximum range is declared at 410 kilometers, power at 268 HP, and a maximum speed of 185 km/h.

All in all, impressive. Not stellar, but impressive.

The biggest draw here is the fact that the document does confirm the Radar RD6 as being qualified for incentives provided by the EVIDA since it falls into the N1 vehicle category. That means lower import duties that equate to more competitive pricing, exemption from Coding, priority registration, the use of charging stations in malls, and a lot of others.

Yes, Geely has had its fair share of struggles and difficulties, but its faithful have remained steadfast. With Geely stepping in to directly manage its operations in the Philippines (taking over from Sojitz G), perhaps this is their way to make a big bang entrance. We’ve yet to get any semblance of confirmation from the local brand and dealership side, but if you’ve been waiting for the Radar RD6, this is definitely some good news to go by.
