The LTO gave everyone a “New Year” gift when it announced stronger enforcement of the No Registration No Travel Policy. In this Policy, all motor vehicles and motorcycles must have proper registration documents from the Land Transportation Office (and the LTFRB, as it applies) for them to be used legally on the road. So far in June 2024 alone, the agency has already logged more than 6,000 violators.
LTO continues enforcement of No Registration No Travel Policy countrywide
Operations against unregistered vehicles have only intensified in the first half of the year, and the Land Transportation Office is unwavering in its pursuit.
According to an agency press release, “more than 6,000 motor vehicles were apprehended nationwide in the first 15 days of June 24 in the continuing aggressive implementation of the ‘No Registration, No Travel’ policy”.
Calls from the Land Transportation Office to owners to properly register their vehicles have been steadfast, and according to agency Chief Vigor Mendoza II, “the continuous operation should serve as a constant reminder to delinquent motor vehicle owners of their obligation to renew the registration of their vehicles“.
“The renewal of the registration is not only an obligation to the government, it is also an obligation to yourself and your family because doing so would compel you to ensure the road worthiness of your motor vehicles, for your safety, for the safety of your love ones,” Mendoza said.
This aggressive campaign against unregistered motor vehicles is part of the road safety instruction of Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, as the renewal of motor vehicles requires a check on their condition.
According to the LTO‘s data, a total of 6,064 motor vehicles were apprehended from just June 1-15. 5,127 of them are motorcycles while the rest are four-wheel vehicles. Of the total number, 5,470 of them were issued with violation tickets while 981 were impounded, and for the four-wheel vehicles, 34 were passenger jeepneys while 7 were passenger buses.
“Huwag sana tayong magsisi na naman sa huli kung ano dapat ang ginawa. Mataaas ang penalty at may kasama pang impound. Pero ang mas matindi dito at kung ang pagsasawalang-bahala natin ay mauwi sa aksidente. Patuloy nating ipapatupad ng mahigpit ang patakaran ito. Huwag na nating hintayin na magka-aberya pa bago gawin ang tama na pagpapa-rehistro ng inyong sasakyan,” Mendoza added.
