Mazda Philippines has made motorsports history after becoming the first brand to sweep all three legs of the Petron Makabayan Cup. The achievement was led by the #55 Team MSCC Mazda Miata race car, which also set new performance benchmarks during the 2025 season.

Considered one of the most demanding endurance race series in the Philippines, the Makabayan Cup consists of three races: the 4-hour Kagitingan Cup, the 12-hour Kalayaan Cup, and the 8-hour Bonifacio Cup. The races are held at either the Clark International Speedway or the Batangas Racing Circuit, with each leg staged on historically significant national dates.
The 2025 season marked the first full sweep of the series by the MX-5 after seven years of development and competition. According to Mazda Philippines, the result reflects the company’s “never stop challenging spirit,” which aligns with Mazda’s global motorsports philosophy.

Team Mazda Miata first competed in 2017 as a one-off entry. A full program was followed in 2019, beginning a steady progression in performance and development. In 2022, the #55 car ran with the “Imagine” livery. By 2024, it evolved into a full carbon-fiber body race car. For 2025, the team introduced a quick-shifting sequential gearbox, considered the car’s most advanced configuration to date.
Throughout its development, the race car retained its stock 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine producing 184 PS and 205 Nm. Despite lower power output compared to purpose-built race cars, the MX-5 remained competitive by focusing on balanced handling, reliability, and mechanical efficiency.

The #55 car also set new lap records across all three race legs, including a 2:06.6 lap time at the 4.189-kilometer Clark International Speedway circuit.
“The 2025 MSCC Miata Endurance Race Series marks a historic milestone for Mazda Philippines,” said Steven Tan. “Our success this year isn’t just about winning a season. It is a culmination of seven years of commitment, refinement, and belief in the MX-5 platform.”
The Team MSCC Mazda Miata program is backed by Mazda Philippines and supported by a technical group led by Edgen Dy-Liacco.
The driver roster includes experienced racers such as Angie King, Windy Imperial, Tyson Sy, Juha Turalba, Matt Solomon, and Milo Rivera.

Now, Mazda Philippines is looking ahead to the 2026 season and is also preparing for the next legs of Mazda Fan Festa with an upgraded Miata Spec Series race car.
