As more and more automotive manufacturers cash in on the EV craze, some are cashing in on the performance aspect of electric battery technology, we’ve seen the likes of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N take the world by storm, and now Mini seems to be entering the fold.
Mini launches JCW EVs
When it comes to Mini, the moniker JCW stands for John Cooper Works. It is a nod to a historic figure within the brand and has become synonymous with the performance models on the British mark.
The two new (and first ever) zero emissions JCW models are the 3-door hatchback John Cooper Works Electric and John Cooper Works Aceman as a more practical 5-door crossover version. Both vehicles share the same platform but as is the case with JCW models pack more punch and feature some other upgrades.
Both vehicles are available in front-wheel drive format only, with a single motor producing 255 HP and 350 NM of torque, a 5.9 0-60 (MPH) is rated for the hatchback and 6.4 seconds for the crossover. Increased power figures are further enhanced through a boost function that adds an extra 27 HP, with increased power comes better brakes and better gripping tires.
Exterior-wise the JCW models are distinguishable through different rim styles, added red accents, and of course JCW badges and logos around the vehicle.
There’s no word yet on just how global the sale of the EV JCWs will be, but given Mini’s popularity in the Philippines there is a chance that we could see a few of these launch locally eventually.
