Seems legit? No, it’s not, and MMDA reminds everyone not to fall for SMS NCAP Scam
We at YugaAuto and the MMDA would like to remind everyone that the enforcement of NCAP or the No-Contact Apprehension Policy is still suspended. That said, under no circumstance should the motoring public fall prey to the SMS scam that’s been going around. Despite some of these messages looking very legitimate, the Metro Manila Development Authority asks the public to be more careful and vigilant.

Creativity knows no bounds, and these SMS scammers have been hard at work, as we can see here. Senders will be registered either as mobile numbers or even under the name “MMDA NCAP”. Word is that devices that can blast SMS with customized sender names and messages have been made available by and to dubious individuals or groups and this is evidence of how real that news must be.

For the public’s benefit, IF the No Contact Apprehension Policy is being enforced, you must know and remember that enforcers will NOT get your mobile number. So, getting an SMS is not something that anyone who is supposedly caught violating the Policy should believe or fall for. These phishing messages – messages that contain a link which when clicked can run a script to steal information stored in a mobile device – have been so rampant that at this point, everyone is and should wonder what in the bloody blazes the SIM Registration Act for.

That said, the MMDA is reiterating its reminder that we should all be careful not to fall prey to scammers and thieves. Should you or anyone you know receive such messages or any messages that seem dubious via SMS or even on social media, you can call 136, which is the MMDA hotline, or send a message to the Authority’s official social media accounts to ascertain that what you received is legit or not.
