More than 15 manufacturers have developed cars for the GT1 class, leading to a legacy of remarkable competition and innovation. Traditionally, these homologation cars had compromised road performance as they were primarily built for track use. However, the new Tuthill GT ONE is designed specifically for the road.
The GT ONE emerged from a conversation between Richard Tuthill and client Elliot Ross. Tuthill plans to build 22 production units, each requiring 3,500 hours of meticulous construction to meet each client’s specifications.
Designed by California-based Florian Flatau, the GT ONE boasts a full carbon fiber body and is powered by a 4.0-liter, six-cylinder engine available in both naturally-aspirated and forced-induction versions. The naturally-aspirated engine, inspired by Tuthill’s high-revving 911K motor, will produce over 500bhp, while the forced-induction version will exceed 600bhp. The redline is yet to be confirmed.
“I never imagined I would have the freedom to revisit the spirit of the FIA GT1 class — it’s a very deep and personal experience for me,” said Florian Flatau, Design Director.
The GT ONE offers a seven-speed dual-clutch option, as seen at The Quail, or a seven-speed manual. It features twin wishbone front and rear suspension, carbon ceramic brakes, and bespoke calipers. Combined with the carbon fiber body, the car weighs just 1,200 kg.
Cutting-edge engineering and exceptional materials are used throughout the car. The underbody and surface aero performance have been optimized through CFD analysis. The car includes a carbon fiber front clam, rear clam, and a full carbon roof with an integrated air intake. The bodywork features an FIA-based rollover protection system (ROPS) and full carbon fiber doors with side impact bars. An optional aero package for track use may be developed.
“It has been a pleasure to work with the amazing team at Wardington who are passionate about creating these cars. At the heart of this car is the pursuit of mechanical excellence. We’ve taken inspiration from our past work and what others have done before us. I hope those who own one will drive it often and create lasting memories. The FIA GT1 class allowed manufacturers to create stunning race cars. We have focused on producing a wonderful road car that everyone can enjoy with us,” said Richard Tuthill.
