The Nissan Silvia is one of the most sought-after classic tuner specials from the 90s-00s. It gained a reputation for being a 2-door sports coupe, that was relatively affordable but highly customizable.
Sadly it was killed off in the 00s and since then gearheads have been clamoring for a return, and it seems some of those prayers have been answered.
Nissan confirms a new Silvia is coming
In an interview with Australia’s Drive magazine, a high-ranking member of the Nissan company confirmed that the Silvia is being worked on officially but in very early stages.
The official in question is Ivan Espinosa, Nissan’s Vice-President Global Product Strategy, he went on further to add that his goal is to have an electrified sports car ready for production by the end of the decade.
Interestingly and rather admirably, Espinosa really wants the new Silvia to be produced from the ground up by themselves and avoid partnering with other brands. This would be a bold move on the brand’s end given most major manufacturers have done partnerships to produce sports cars like the Supra/Z4, and the BRZ/86.
It’ll be interesting to see what they do finally come up with and if the project does make it out of the early stages, rest assured though a legion of gearheads are rallying behind Nissan to get the job done.
