Porsche is reviving the six-speed manual transmission for the 911 Carrera S in North America in response to strong customer demand for the option. Previously, the 992.2-generation Carrera S came exclusively with an eight-speed PDK gearbox, but a new 911 Carrera S with MT Package now sits alongside it, built exclusively for the North American market.

Standard equipment on the new variant is more generous than on the regular Carrera S, with an emphasis on analog driving feel and weight savings. Porsche positions the model as a sportier extension of the lineup, following the template set by the Carrera T, aimed at drivers who prefer backroads and longer routes over straight efficiency.

“As a lifelong driving enthusiast I’m personally excited to announce the return of the manual transmission to the Carrera S,” said Timo Resch, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America. “While some brands are abandoning the manual, we are proud to continue offering three pedals in a range of products that speaks to different use cases. Managing a clutch and shift lever isn’t for everyone, but for the drivers who want it there really is no substitute.”

Seven 911 variants with a conventional manual transmission are now available in North America. Entry-level access to manual shifting comes through the 911 Carrera T coupe and Cabriolet, while the 911 GT3, GT3 with Touring Package, and GT3 S/C sit at the other end, pairing manual gearboxes with motorsport-derived engines and chassis setups. Slotting between these, the new Carrera S with MT Package is offered as a coupe and a Cabriolet, which leans toward driving enjoyment over outright acceleration, backed by a more powerful engine and extensive personalization options.

Only a rear-wheel-drive layout is offered for this model. Rear-axle steering, a PASM Sport suspension that drops ride height by 10mm, a walnut shift handle, the Sport Chrono Package, and unique exhaust tuning all come standard. Center-lock wheels appear on a Carrera S model for the first time, shaving more than 17 lbs. off the weight of the standard wheel setup. Four-way Sport Seats Plus, titanium exhaust outlets with black trim, and a SportDesign front fascia round out the package, along with a red “S” badge on the rear, which is a detail Porsche says was inspired by a modification popular among North American enthusiasts. Buyers can step up to 14-way Sport Seats, 18-way Sport Seats Plus, or carbon-fiber Folding Lightweight Bucket Seats at an additional cost.

Output comes from the familiar 473-hp 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six, tuned for balance between cornering and straight-line performance. Curb weight for the coupe version lands at 3,327 lbs., just 11 lbs. heavier than the Carrera T coupe. Braking duties fall to cast iron discs measuring 408mm up front and 380mm at the rear, paired with six-piston front and four-piston rear fixed calipers — matching other Carrera S variants. Buyers can option Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) and carbon-fiber bucket seats for further weight reduction, a choice not available on the Carrera T.

Personalization options extend across the broader 911 lineup, with 17 exterior paint colors plus Paint to Sample and Paint to Sample Plus programs, availability permitting. More than 70 leather interior configurations are also on offer.
Two optional packages add further visual distinction. The exterior package brings HD-Matrix Design headlights finished in black with a white ring, Ceramica wheels, a red “S” badge paired with white rear PORSCHE lettering, body-colored mirror housings, and puddle lights that project the six-speed shift pattern onto the ground. Inside, the interior package adds Plaid Sport-Tex fabric seat centers with Chalk stripes, matching seat belts and stitching, Ceramica trim with black brushed aluminum accents, a white accent ring on the Sport Chrono clock face, and brushed black aluminum door sill guards.
Orders for the 2027 911 Carrera S with the MT Package are now open through Porsche Centers in the USA. As for those living outside of the US, well there are no plans for the M/T Carrera S to launch outside as of now, but here’s hoping it does.
