One of the most sought-after and most important car launches of the year so far has been the reveal of the 2023 Suzuki Jimny 5-door. While the launch had confirmed many months of speculation as to the accuracy of the model, there was no time frame for a production date.
Now it seems there’s an answer to that too, well for the Indian market at least.
Suzuki Jimny 5-door production to start soon
A report by Autocar India states that Maruti Suzuki plans to commence production of the 5-door Jimny in April of this year. The automaker is targeting to produce around 100,000 units per year wherein 66 % of that target will be allocated to the local market of India. The remaining percentage is slated to be shared for export to other countries and the Philippines will most likely have a share of that pie.
Given that the Jimny is a very popular nameplate, at the moment Maruti is already facing an 18,000-unit strong order list from customers in India. This means that before any exports can be done, they will probably satisfy those orders first.
If the best-case scenario happens, and Maruti along with the Japanese automaker doesn’t run into any production delays or problems, there’s a chance that the Philippine market could get the Jimny 5-door sooner rather than later. When exactly is soon? no set date yet but we’ll have to wait and see. Fingers crossed Jimny fans!
