Kia has unveiled a significant mid-cycle update for the K8, the latest generation of the sedan formerly known as the K7 in its domestic market. This facelift introduces major changes, aligning the K8 with Kia’s latest design language and offering enhanced features and performance options.
In keeping with Kia’s commitment to innovative design, the updated K8 features vertical headlights that give the car a futuristic look. The front end has been completely redesigned, now sporting a wide LED strip that connects the headlights. Additionally, Kia has repositioned its logo from the bumper to the bottom of the hood, further refining the vehicle’s sleek appearance.
At the rear, the changes are more subtle but impactful. The previously criticized fake exhaust tips have been removed, and while the taillights remain the same, the bumper has been restyled for a cleaner look. Notably, the front and rear overhangs are now slightly longer due to the reshaped bumpers, an unusual move for a facelift.
Inside the K8, several updates enhance comfort and convenience. The climate controls have been relocated below the central air vents for improved accessibility. Kia has incorporated more soft-touch materials throughout the cabin, and a new LED ambient light strip bisects the dashboard, adding a touch of modern elegance. In the rear, illuminated seatbelt buckles enhance both safety and convenience. All versions of the K8 now come standard with ten airbags, and the adaptive high beam headlights partially dim to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers.
The updated K8 offers a range of powertrain options to suit various driving preferences:
Base option: A 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine producing 195 hp and 248 Nm of torque.
Performance Option: A 3.5-liter V-6 engine delivering 296 hp and 359 Nm of torque, with an available all-wheel drive system.
Electrified options: A 3.5-liter LPI engine and a 1.6-liter hybrid engine are also available, catering to those seeking different fuel options or greater efficiency.
Launch and Availability
The revamped K8 is set to go on sale this month in South Korea, with electrified models expected to follow. This mid-cycle update not only refreshes the K8’s design but also reinforces Kia’s commitment to offering and continuing its sale of sedans despite slowing sales of this particular segment globally.
