Peugeot has officially unveiled the all-new E-208 GTi, marking the return of its iconic GTi badge, this time on a fully electric model. With 280 hp and a 0-100 km/h time of just 5.7 seconds, Peugeot says the E-208 GTi is now the most powerful car in the electric B-segment.

This launch comes 40 years after the debut of the original 205 GTi, which helped establish the hot hatch category. Peugeot says the E-208 GTi not only pays tribute to that legacy but also ushers the GTi name into a new, all-electric era.

The E-208 GTi is powered by a 280 hp M4+ electric motor delivering 345 Nm of torque. A 54 kWh battery supports the drivetrain, enabling a top speed of 180 km/h and a WLTP-rated range of 350 km.

Chassis improvements include widened tracks +56 mm in front and +27 mm at the rear and a ride height lowered by 30 mm. A limited-slip differential is integrated into the gearbox, enhancing cornering and stability.
The braking system features 355 mm front discs with four-piston calipers developed by Peugeot Sport, while Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres provide grip.

The E-208 GTi was engineered by Peugeot Sport, the same team behind Peugeot’s WEC entry with the 9X8 Hypercar. Lessons from motorsport—particularly thermal and energy management—were applied to this road-going model. The car made its public debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, highlighting its performance intent.
The electric motor is manufactured in Trémery, France, as part of Stellantis and Nidec Leroy-Somer’s Emotors venture. Tires are supplied by Michelin, further reinforcing the car’s French heritage.
Visually, the E-208 GTi remains understated. Its exclusive bright red paint, wider arches with red accents, and discreet diffuser signal its GTi status without overstatement. The 18-inch GTi-branded wheels echo the design of the original 205’s perforated “hole” wheels.
Inside, red carpets, seatbelts, and stitching complement sporty seats with integrated headrests and retro-inspired trim. The compact steering wheel is finished in Alcantara and perforated red leather.

The digital display, ambient lighting, and infotainment system carry red GTi themes, while a synthetic performance sound enhances the driving experience (with the option to disable it).
The car comes with the latest PEUGEOT i-Connect Advanced infotainment system, featuring TomTom navigation, voice recognition, and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Premium materials like Alcantara and new fabrics reinforce the car’s upscale positioning.

Despite its focus on performance, the E-208 GTi maintains practicality. Charging options include a 7.4 kW AC wallbox (4h40 full charge) and 100 kW DC fast-charging, which enables a 20-80% charge in under 30 minutes. The car also includes V2L (vehicle-to-load) capability and the MyPEUGEOT® app for remote features.

The E-208 GTi benefits from an 8-year/160,000 km warranty on both the vehicle and battery. A wallbox charger is included, along with a Free2Move access card covering one million charging points across Europe.

Alain Favey, CEO of Peugeot, commented, “This model represents a fusion of our rich heritage with cutting-edge technology. With this new GTi, we set new standards within the hot hatch market.”
Jean-Marc Finot, SVP of Stellantis Motorsport and part of the original 205 GTi project, added, “Having been involved in the original 205 GTi, this new era with the E-208 GTi is especially meaningful. It’s a return to the agility and steering feel that defined Peugeot GTis.”
We used to have the Peugeot 208 GTi in the Philippines. Could this new E-208 GTi be considered locally, seeing as there is an increasing popularity for electrified vehicles? Only time will tell.
