In recent memory, there hasn’t been any brand capable of challenging Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) when it came to market dominance, and that has remained unchanged this past 2024. During the Media Thanksgiving party, TMP Chairman Alfred Ty announced that 2024 was an all-time record high of sales for the brand, selling 218,019. That accounts for around 46% of the market share for all new vehicles sold in the Philippines.
Toyota PH to go bigger in 2025
Toyota PH hasn’t wasted any time in continuing its quest for sustained success as we’ve already seen quiet launches of the new Camry, Corolla Altis Hybrid, and even the Supra.
Moving forward the Japanese automaker has bigger plans afoot for this year, particularly for the GR performance brand. During the same Thanksgiving party, TMP President Masando Hashimoto gave some insight into the GR activities for the year, with some hints like a collaboration between themselves and another auto brand, as well as a possible street race, but the most intriguing is the possibility of the New Generation Tamaraw becoming a new race car for the Philippine Cup.
The inclusion of the Tamaraw race car is not something foreign as the Thailand equivalent Hilux Champ already enjoys a race series there. Creating a race series for the Tamaraw would also be in line with what TMP is doing, with a name change to the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup last year, this would be the first move in diversifying the race series to include more models.
If our assumptions are correct, then it seems Toyota Motor Philippines is set for another big year.
