Toyota to supply mobility solutions for 2024 Paris Paralympic and Olympic games

In anticipation of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024, Toyota Motor Corporation has announced the delivery of 3,374 sustainable mobility vehicles. This initiative underscores Toyota’s longstanding global partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). The vehicles will support athletes, officials, volunteers, accredited media, and spectators, and will prominently feature the visual identity of Paris 2024, emphasizing the strong partnership between Toyota and the Games.

To ensure fair and hassle-free access for attendees, the vehicles will be part of a shared mobility service connected to and powered by Toyota’s KINTO Share mobile app. The KINTO Share car-sharing service has been available to the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee since September 2023, providing additional flexibility alongside Toyota’s official fleet.

Toyota’s “Mobility for All” philosophy is central to this initiative, reflecting the belief that freedom of movement is essential for active societal participation. As part of its “Start Your Impossible” global corporate initiative, Toyota aims to overcome mobility barriers, empowering individuals to achieve their goals. This provision of vehicles also complements Toyota’s partnership with over 200 Global Team Toyota Athletes from 40 countries who will compete in the Games.

“At Toyota, we are dedicated to creating a world where each individual has the freedom to move and can realize their fullest potential, working toward our vision of ‘Mobility for All.’ Sharing this ethos are the IOC and IPC, and our partnership seeks to support athletes and remove their barriers to movement. We are proud to deliver the latest advancements of our multi-pathway strategy to Paris 2024 — showcasing the impact we have made toward an inclusive and sustainable mobility future, that enables everyone to start their ‘impossible’,” said Preston Tan, Vice President, Toyota Motor Asia.

Toyota is providing 700 personal and group mobility products for the Games, including over 250 seated C+walkS and standing C+walkT personal battery electric vehicles with a maximum speed of 6 km/h and front obstacle detection systems. Additionally, 50 wheelchair e-pullers will be available at the athletes’ village, with another 150 to be added during the Paralympic Games.

To support attendees with physical disabilities, Toyota has deployed 250 zero tailpipe emission electric Accessible People Movers (APM), which will serve as the main shuttle in the Olympic and Paralympic Village and at the venues. These are complemented by 150 wheelchair-accessible battery-electric vehicles, Toyota Proace Versos, which will remain in Paris after the Games for continued use.

Toyota remains committed to achieving global carbon neutrality by 2050. For Paris 2024, Toyota has brought a fully electrified passenger vehicle fleet comprising 2,650 vehicles, 60% of which are battery electric vehicles (BEV) and fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEV). This includes models like the Toyota bZ4X, Proace, Proace Verso, Lexus RZ, and Toyota Mirai.

The Toyota Mirai, a hydrogen-fuel-cell-powered sedan, will be refueled with hydrogen from renewable sources in collaboration with Air Liquide. Toyota’s vision for a sustainable hydrogen ecosystem will be showcased with ten different hydrogen mobility applications at Paris 2024, including FCEV buses, trucks, forklifts, boats, coaches, and the Hilux prototype.

Toyota’s dedication to inclusivity and sustainability is reflected in its support for over 200 Global Team Toyota Athletes. In the region, Toyota Motor Asia has partnered with 11 athletes from various countries as part of the “Start Your Impossible” initiative. Through these partnerships, Toyota aids athletes in achieving their sporting aspirations and championing social causes aimed at making positive societal changes.
