Xiaomi SU7 Ultra – A new and unexpected (?) challenger will enter the Nürburgring

It was only last year that Xiaomi announced its entry into the EV market. A few months since then, it’s announced – with the SU7 Ultra – their intention to challenge the four-door electric vehicle record in no less than the Nürburgring. Yes, you heard that right. The ‘Ring will see a new challenger at its doorstep and Xioami is looking at October to finally be able to take a crack at it.

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra has a lot of proving to do, and it might just have the hardware to do it

First of all, we’d like to start by saying that the SU7 Ultra is going to be a prototype. Yes, the SU7 will be a production model, but it’s already looking promising given its numbers on paper. Both “normal” and prototype will have the same chassis structure, electric motors, and battery units. Word has it that it pumps out a mind-boggling 1,548 HP and that it will also feature a 2nd generation Kirin battery.

The main difference between the “normal” and the SU7 Ultra prototype is that the latter will have a full carbon-fiber design, and the former will have two variants, Regular and Track.

Given this information, plus the numbers you see in the images above, Xiaomi is confident enough to pit the SU7 Ultra against the time of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT’s lap time around the famed and fabled Nürburgring. You read that right, Xiaomi has intentions of going faster than 7 minutes and 5.5 seconds around the ‘Ring.

By going from 0-100 km/h in 1.97 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 5.96 seconds, and with a maximum declared speed of over 350 km/h, its rated HP currently is the highest and strongest that’s been declared for any 4-door, gasoline-powered cars.

All these said the challenge is set to take place in October this year.

Xiaomi is a “new” challenger with the SU7 Ultra, indeed. “Unexpected”, well, perhaps it is. No, it really is. Very much a greenhorn in the automotive world, Xiaomi has already broken boundaries with the SU7’s specs, and with the Ultra Prototype, they’re aiming much higher than the stars and much lower than a proven track machine’s time, especially around the ‘Ring.

Can they do it?

October isn’t too far off, and we’re pretty sure the engineers at Xiaomi are hard at work making sure that they field a track-worthy opponent to records set. Until that time, we hope they share more information about how they plan to beat an already impressive, blazingly fast track time.
