The long weekend called for long road trips. But worry not because fuel prices this week are set to go down significantly! If you used up a lot of fuel during the holiday, filling your tanks this week won’t be too painful because of a big-time rollback set to be implemented tomorrow, August 27, with gasoline going down by PHP 1.15USD 0.02INR 2EUR 0.02CNY 0.14 and diesel by PHP 1.90USD 0.03INR 3EUR 0.03CNY 0.24 per liter.

Last week, fuel prices went up, breaking what was to be the 4th week of rollbacks. All things come to an end, and fortunately for us, the potential price hike streak will be broken this week. Tomorrow, August 27, gasoline and diesel prices will be cheaper per liter, with the former going down by PHP 1.15USD 0.02INR 2EUR 0.02CNY 0.14 and the latter by PHP 1.90USD 0.03INR 3EUR 0.03CNY 0.24.

The adjustment of prices will be implemented as early as 12:01 AM by Cleanfuel, per its usual practice. As for the other major players including Petron, Caltex, Shell, Seaoil, and Unioil, all their pumps will reflect the updated fuel prices a little later at 6:00 AM. Regardless, we can all expect a significant decrease in gas and diesel, and those who used a good amount of either can fill their tanks up with a bit of a smile this week.

Rollbacks notwithstanding, we think that now is a good time to put to light the viability of alternative sources of fuel such as hybrid technology. There’s no way of knowing how favorable or horrendous fuel prices will be on a week-to-week basis and being able to rely on, say, the Honda e:HEV technology or a pure electric vehicle may be a good thing.

For now, let’s all of us enjoy tomorrow’s rollback. We’d like to get our hopes up, and that’s not a bad thing, so here’s to another rollback streak. Hopefully.
