A big hello to Lalamove Ride, your newest ride-hailing TNVS option
With the exit of Uber and the veritable monopoly of the green brand of TNVS, Lalamove Ride wants to bring some competition into the PH market. Previously operating mainly as a courier service, Lalamove has just expanded its foothold in the transportation sector by joining the TNVS fray and offering a new option for commuters to take for their “commuting” needs. Whether you’re looking for a ride or if you’re interested in being one of Ride’s drivers, here’s what you need to know.

If you have the app, you’ll easily find a new option to choose Lalamove Ride for your personal ride-hailing needs. Given the still-lacking effective means of public transportation, those who might want a little bit more convenience and comfort by way of a TNVS option can now book a ride with Lalamove and you can do it in just 6 easy steps.

After opening the app, you start by choosing Lalamove Ride. Once that’s done, you’ll have to click on what type of vehicle will suit your transportation needs, and for now, those are choices between Car and CarXL, presumably for more people or bigger cargo that you might be lugging around with you. Doing these will bring up the pricing details and when you click on Next, you can add notes for your driver, your contact number, select your payment method, and even add a coupon for discounts.
After that, you can do a final review of your booking and once you’ve confirmed all the details you have entered, you can go ahead and click on the Place Order button, your request will be distributed to Lalamove Ride drivers near you. You can track where your ride is and once you’re picked up, you’ll be on your way!

If you’re interested in becoming a driver and using your vehicle to earn with Lalamove Ride, the steps you need to complete are in the infographic above. We can only assume that the “training” and other requirements are similar to those that existing TNVS and ride-hailing services are already using, and based on this author’s conversations with TNVS drivers, they aren’t all too difficult to comply with.
With this newest service, Lalamove promises a new and more affordable option for those who may use ride-hailing as their staple means of transportation. And if we may, this author did a check between Lalamove Ride and the other brand’s fares and found that indeed, it is priced lower! However long this stays the case remains to be seen, of course.
With the still-rising number of fake and colorum TNVS, the addition of a legitimate ride-hailing service assures customers of security and safety. However, this does add to the glaring car-centricity of our metropolis. We can and do appreciate all the jobs that this new service can bring to the people, but until such time we are given more and better means of mass public transportation, this convenience (for those who can afford it) will result in more vehicles and, inevitably, more traffic jams on our streets.
For what it is, it is a win. But in as much as many clamor for a non-monopoly, many also call for better mass transportation. Of course, we can talk about that separately.
