The NAIAX and Skyway Stage 3 have been on the news recently with some eagle-eyed motorists spotting new speed limit signage that indicated 80 rather than 60.
This prompted a social media debate as to whether a new increased speed limit is already in effect, well speculate no longer as SMC Tollways has given official word on the matter.
NAIAX and Skyway Stage 3 get speed limit increase to 80 kph
NAIAX will be the first to switch to 80 KPH on January 15, 2025, while Skyway Stage 3 will adopt the 80 KPH limit starting January 20, 2025. However, it must be noted that the 60 KPH limit is still in effect on the curved sections of the elevated tollway system so motorists must still be careful.
The variation in speed limits along the highway is for safety reasons according to SMC Chairman Ramon Ang, who stated that the 60 KPh was necessary on the curved parts of the highway to avoid motorists miscalculation speed, or turning inputs since there are some narrow sharp curves on the highway.
Furthermore, Ang stated that the faster speed limit was implemented to improve motorists’ driving experience and make the highway more efficient.
