2024 Lexus GX revealed and it’s ready to conquer any road

After a couple of teasers, the 2024 Lexus GX has finally been uncovered. Despite being a part of the luxury SUV market, Lexus is very confident that the GX is also a “premium off-roader” and whether on urban streets or rugged terrain, this all-new model can hold its own, and more.

2024 Lexus GX will be gradually released in different regions by end of 2023

Much like the LX, the Lexus GX has also taken on a rather boxy design. It does well to make the SUV look more muscular though, given its straight edges and sharp angles from the hood to the sides.

A clamshell hood has been fitted onto this model, and an updated grill gives it a more outdoorsy look. Depending on the variant, the Lexus GX comes with a set of 18″, 20″, or 22″ alloy wheels. Perhaps the biggest and most welcome design element added to this generation is the light bar that spans the whole width of the tailgate. The rear’s overall look is also very different from that of its predecessor and keeps up with the clean but rugged, boxy look.

Inside the Lexus GX is a predominantly black cabin with a lot of leather and what we can surmise are soft-touch panels on the dash and door sidings. This 7-seater SUV also comes with a fully digital gauge cluster as well as a massive infotainment screen front and center of the dashboard.

Not much information has been given about the interior amenities and cabin features, but we’re pretty sure that automatic and dual-zone climate control, seat ventilation, and mobile device connectivity are among the standards that come with the GX. It is a Lexus after all. Two differently-sized moonroof panels or a full ceiling are also seen and will be equipped (or not) depending on the variant purchased.

Powering the Lexus GX is a 3.5L twin-turbocharged V6 engine or a 2.4L turbo-hybrid variant, a first for a Lexus body-on-frame vehicle. No power or torque figures were given, but Lexus did add that it comes with E-KDSS, which provides exceptional compatibility between off-road and on-road driving, a state-of-the-art brake control technology (Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control), and a Multi-Terrain Monitor to support driving in a variety of environments on or off the road, and it also comes with the brand’s latest preventive safety technology, Lexus Safety System +.

“As a full-fledged off-roader for Lexus, we have been working on the off-road performance so that our customers can be confident that they can go anywhere with this vehicle, no matter how rugged the road ahead. We have also tested the vehicle in all kinds of environments. With the cooperation of professional rally drivers, we focused on driving performance, such as suspension characteristics that provide a firm ground feel, responsiveness that faithfully responds to the driver’s detailed steering, acceleration, and braking operations, and visibility that allows the driver to clearly see the surrounding environment,” said Kazuyuki Ueno, Lexus Off-Road Takumi.

“We have thoroughly focused on these factors. The vehicle’s ability to handle rough terrain will take you to places you have never been before and provide you with new experiences that can only be had in the great outdoors,” he added.

“We have worked on the on-road performance of the GX so that you can feel the Lexus character from the moment you get into the GX and start driving. To achieve responsive and stress-free acceleration, linear and straightforward steering feel provided by the EPS, controllable and easy-to-use brakes, and a quiet and comfortable ride that does not tire the occupants even on long trips, we repeated driving tests at the Shimoyama development facility, the new base of Lexus,” shared Shuichi Ozaki, Lexus On-Road Takumi, on the GX’s road behavior.

“We have been developing this vehicle so that it can provide a hallmark Lexus driving experience in any situation, regardless of people, road, or environment. We believe that we have achieved a ride quality that makes driving the GX a truly enjoyable experience for all passengers,” he further explained.

Now that this new SUV has been uncovered, we now have a barometer of what we could expect of the Toyota Prado. That may be a not-so-long-while for now, but one thing’s for sure, the Lexus GX is one eye-catching SUV. It definitely caught ours!
