Those who frequent Manila, specifically those who travel along the Legarda Flyover, are in for some bad news. Starting tomorrow, July 6 until November 6, certain segments of the elevated roadway will be closed. This follows the need to repair and conduct the replacement of 19 damaged expansion joints.
Parts of Legarda Flyover closed for 4 months
In an advisory posted by the Department of Public Works and Highways yesterday, the motoring public is being informed of the Legarda Flyover’s partial closure for 4 months, from July 6 until November 6, 2024. 19 units of expansion joints were found to have been damaged, and this prompted a rather urgent response from the DPWH.
The first portion to be closed will be the westbound lane heading towards Legarda; the closure will take “half width of the whole lanes for replacement”. Once repairs along this segment have been completed, the eastbound lane going towards Magsaysay Boulevard will be closed to traffic in the same manner.
We all know that the Legarda Flyover is an important artery to and from certain areas of Manila, and this closure, albeit partial, will definitely result in (worse) traffic and congestion. As such, everyone is being advised to work out alternate routes for their travels for the duration of the repairs. The DPWH is assuring the public that the affected lanes will be opened immediately after completion of repairs.
Be warned, everyone. With school starting next month, it’s bound to get pretty bad.
