VinFast has launched a web-based Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Calculator on its website, giving customers a tool to compare the long-term costs of driving an EV with those of a traditional gas-powered vehicle.
The calculator aims to address a common hurdle in local EV adoption by turning general industry claims about long-term savings into personalized estimates for individual households. With gas prices continuing to strain Filipino household transport budgets, the tool shifts the buying decision beyond specs and price tags toward total lifetime cost.

Users select a VinFast model, enter their average monthly mileage, choose a battery ownership option, and set an expected ownership period. The calculator then generates an estimated monthly payment, monthly energy cost, and total ownership cost projection within seconds, comparing these figures against equivalent ICE models.
In one example cited by VinFast, a buyer who selects a VF 7 Plus with a battery subscription plan and drives 2,000 kilometers per month over five years would see an estimated TCO of P1,884,890. An ICE vehicle under the same conditions was estimated at P3,156,240 over the same period, which is a difference of P1,271,350, or about 40 percent.
The launch comes as EV interest grows locally. A consumer study by Agile Data Solutions Inc. found that one in six Filipinos are actively considering an EV or hybrid, with rising transport and fuel costs cited as a key factor. Gas prices have intermittently approached the P100 mark in recent weeks. Based on 2026 local estimates, standard electricity rates are around P12 per kWh, compared to roughly P65 per liter of petrol, a gap that can help high-mileage EV drivers offset the higher upfront cost of an EV over time.
A similar pattern shows up internationally. Deloitte’s 2026 Global Automotive Consumer Study found that 52 percent of U.S. consumers considering an EV cited lower fuel costs as their main motivation, while 40 percent cited overall vehicle cost and maintenance as a top concern.
VinFast was the top-selling BEV brand in the Philippines from March to June 2026, according to CAMPI-TMA data. The company positions the TCO Calculator as a financial planning tool rather than a marketing feature, allowing buyers to run their own ownership scenarios instead of relying on the brand’s claims about savings.
