When you think about the Hyundai brand one nameplate that’s almost as famous as the Starex is the Accent. In previous years the Accent was one of the best-selling cars not just for the brand but in the country in general. It enjoyed a steady stream of success for a few years until it was eventually killed off locally.
Internationally though it continued to be sold, and the latest one has just been released.
2023 Hyundai Accent
A month after it was teased, the all-new Verna (Accent) has finally broken the cover for its global debut in India. The most apparent design feature has to be that the Accent now sports the new family front fascia which is reminiscent of the Staria and Stargazer. This design motif is called the Sensual Sportiness design.
It has swooping/wraparound LED headlights tucked beneath the hood, but it also incorporates the brand’s parametric grille design which is similar to the one found in the Tuscon and Santa Fe. While the rear LED taillights have a modern and angular pattern, the wheels meanwhile are either 15 inches or 16 inches for the top-of-the-line variant.
Inside the Hyundai Accent gets the familiar floating design language found in its siblings, with a more simplified digital gauge cluster. The infotainment screen though is a 10.25-inch unit with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, but the most amazing part is that it comes with an 8-speaker Bose sound system.
Other interior features include ambient lighting, heated/ventilated seats with power adjustment for the driver, a sunroof, wireless device charging, automatic climate control, and a manual rear sunblind.
So what’s under the hood? there are a few engine options namely either naturally aspirated or turbocharged. The base 1.5-liter makes 115 Hp and 144 Nm the exact same engine and figures as the Creta and Stargazer. The next engine is a 1.5-liter turbocharged lump that makes a more than decent 160 Hp and 253 Nm of torque. The non-turbo engine can come with either a 6-speed manual or the IVT, while the turbo comes with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual clutch.
Prices for the all-new Hyundai Accent in India start at around PHP 700,000 and top out at PHP 1,100,000. The key question is, should Hyundai Motor Philippines bring it back? given the brand’s aggressiveness here it’s likely, not to mention that the Accent has a pretty strong following in the Philippines. If the price and spec are right, then it might just make sense to bring it back.
