The Cavite-Batangas Expressway will be constructed. San Miguel Corporation has been given a 35-year tollway concession for the construction and operation of the newest expressway that’s slated to be built, connecting the two provinces while traversing a number of municipalities.
CBEX: PHP 27B project, 27 kilometers long
The joint venture between San Miguel Corporation and the Cavite government was greenlit after the signing of the tollway concession last February 7, 2023. The expressway will link the towns of Silang, Cavite and Nasugbu, Batangas and its completion is currently set for the year 2026.
The municipalities that the CBEX will run through are Silang, Amadeo, Tagaytay, Indang, Mendez, and Alfonso in Cavite and, as mentioned will end close to Nasugbu, Batangas.
“It will also improve connectivity between the National Capital Region and Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon, enhance the mobility of people and goods in the area, and mitigate road congestion in Calabarzon,” SMC said during the filing of the concession. An estimated 40,000 motorists are expected to use the CBEx per day during its first three years of operations.
Not to be mistaken for the Cavite-Tagaytay-Batangas Expressway (CTBEX), CBEX will be a different roadway altogether. The former is a 50.4-kilometer project that was proposed by the Manuel V. Pangilinan-led infrastructure giant Metro Pacific Investments Corp.
“Build, Build, Build” has definitely not lost any steam transitioning from one government to another. Do you think another expressway will do well for traffic congestion and commerce in and around the Cavite-Batangas areas? We hope so. Otherwise, what are we building them for?
There is already the east west road and the Tagaytay Bypass road.
It’s not “Build Build Build”, it’s PPP
