If you think the Active Lane Change Assistant feature of the 2024 BMW 5 Series is cool, here’s something much cooler. It’s called AirConsole, and it might be a pretty useful feature, especially for those who get stuck in long traffic jams. What does it do? Oh, not much. It just allows you to play some “casual” games when you’re fully stopped, that’s all. Gaming, you say?
BMW partners with AirConsole to provide in-car entertainment
Those who might (already) have a 2024 5 Series will be the first to get this new feature. As a means to provide a unique kind of in-car gaming, AirConsole has a selection of racing, sports, quiz, and music quiz games as well as simulation, strategy, jump-and-run and puzzle games. There are currently about 15 or so titles available which include Go Kart Go, Golazo, Music Guess, and Overcooked. There are plans to keep expanding the selection of games in the continuing future.
How do you use it? Well, for starters, and for now, you have to have a 5 Series. With a mobile phone in hand and via the Curved Display, you can connect the infotainment system and the mobile phones by scanning a QR Code after “booting up” the app. Once that’s done, you’ll just need to select a game and you’re off! No muss, no fuss. Some of the app’s games support multiple players simultaneously, so even rear passengers can participate in the in-car gaming fun.
It goes without saying that this can only be used when the vehicle is at a complete stop; any situation other than that is just outright dangerous. But given how traffic can be so bad where we are, and at the most unpredictable times, something like this feature is something nice to have. Besides, you can use it while waiting for the batteries to charge, too.
Also, we say “for now” because as we mentioned, other models in the brand’s lineup
Cool, right? And no, no Mobile Legends here. You can’t even pause that game, so don’t get your hopes up.
