This is MMDA’s deplorable grand total of Metro Manila motorcycle-related road crashes so far in 2024

Back in 2021, information was shared by the MMDA regarding the number of motorcycle-related road accidents in Metro Manila. This year, information has been posted again and within the first 3 months of 2024, we already have a pretty staggering number of occurrences.

MMDA records more than 4,000 Metro Manila accidents involving motorcycles in Q1 of 2024

Just to give some perspective, according to the MMDA’s published data, a total of 26,599 motorcycle-related road crashes were recorded. In 2023, this number ballooned to a higher 31, 186. That’s definitely not a good thing. At the end of 2024’s 1st quarter, where do the numbers stand?

So far, 4,068 have already been tallied. Surprised?

We are still in the process of acquiring more information as we did in our last report which included a list of totals per road with such incidences. Once we have that, we’ll be sure to update this article. However, it’s already safe to say that we already have about 13% of last year’s crash numbers in just this year’s first 3 months alone. Some might say that’s “low”, most will probably be thinking “that’s just going to keep going up, just you wait”.

Regardless of how one sees it, the fact remains that motorcycles figuring in road accidents are still a major problem for everyone. It’s because of this that (according to) the MMDA conceived their Motorcycle Riding Academy, which very recently has already signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in acknowledgment of and for the accreditation of the knowledge and skills that it equips its “students” with. This should be another reason to get proper education and training for operating and driving a motorcycle, yes?

That said, let’s all just drive safely and responsibly on the road. It’s never good to be part of bad statistics.
