6 months ago the all-new Lexus RX made its world debut, fast forward to today and Lexus Philippines has just introduced the 5th generation model locally. Significantly this new generation RX is now a hybrid as well, here’s what it’s got to offer.
2023 Lexus RX Hybrid Launched
The RX now more or less resembles the majority of its other Lexus siblings and based on the looks alone it really has become more mature and classier. Its design language is what Lexus calls the “Spindle” body design which the brand says allows them to make the signature grille stand out more.
It also comes with a bolder stance courtesy of a sleeker ‘front to rear’ posture. Not only does it get a more coupe-like design thanks to an extended hood, but Lexus was also able to stretch its wheelbase by 60mm and lower the roofline by 10mm. The LED headlights now also feature a more striking and sharper design motif.
Inside the RX the brand has gone for a more driver-centric approach courtesy of the Tazuma concept they’ve adapted. It’s supposed to give the drivers direct and intuitive control of the heads-up display and infotainment system without much eye contact deviation from the road ahead.
No interior amenities have been confirmed as of yet but in other markets like Thailand, the RX comes with a full leather interior, a power-adjustable steering column, electrically-adjustable front seats with memory function, a 360-degree panoramic view monitor, a wireless charging pad, and advanced automatic parking assist.
Furthermore, the 14-inch infotainment screen is also likely to have features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, plus USB-A/USB-C ports. Depending on the variant, there’s also a choice between a 12-speaker Panasonic sound system or a 21-speaker Mark Levinson surround sound system.
Under the hood of the new RX is a slew of Hybrid powertrains, gone is the naturally aspirated V6 engine. The top trim RX 500h F-sport is powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged in-line 4-cylinder that puts out 371 Ps and 550 Nm of torque which is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. With the Direct4 AWD system equipped as standard, the RX 500h F-Sport can catapult itself from 0 – 100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds.
There is also an engine option for the more economically minded motorist; the RX 350h. It gets a new 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine that puts out 249 PS and 316 Nm of torque. Instead of an automatic gearbox, the RX 350h is mated to an e-CVT.
Safety-wise all RX variants come with the latest Safety System+ suite with improvements on the Pre-Collision System, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Lane Trace Assist.
