LTFRB is asking for a 30 day suspension of No Contact Apprehension Policy for PUV’s
With the recent return of face-to-face classes, our roads are busier than ever. In the past week alone, social media has been awash with posts and photos of the Metro seemingly clogged up by more pedestrians, vehicles, and commuters.
In anticipation of this, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) reopened different routes just to be able to service more people and commuters who need to get to school and back.
LTFRB asks MMDA for suspension of NCAP for PUVs
It seems though that the LTFRB isn’t quite finished, last August 21, 2022, the agency released a statement asking the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to suspend the No Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP) for public utility vehicles (PUVs).
Here is the meat of the LTFRBs statement: “Relative thereto, the undersigned respectfully requests the review on the application of the no-contact apprehension program (NCAP) for public utility vehicles for at least 30 days, particularly on the new routes that will be reopened by LTFRB MC Nos. 2022-067 and 2022-068.”
The statement went on further to say that, “Sa pakikipag-usap sa DOTr, tiniyak naman ng MMDA na hindi mahuhuli ang mga naturang PUV dahil walang CPC para sa mga rutang binuksan. Bukod diyan, exempted ang mga PUV sa Number Coding Scheme ng MMDA. Pero iginigiit ng MMDA na hindi exempted ang mga PUV sa paglabag sa mga batas-trapiko at tinitiyak nila na mananagot ang mga pasaway na PUV driver sa kalsada. Dinagdag nito na lahat ng CPC violations ay ipapadala sa LTFRB para sa karampatang aksyon.”
As of the moment, no confirmation or clarification by the MMDA has been made as a response to the LTFRB’s request. We are of course as curious as you are whether the MMDA will grant the request or if both parties will reach some sort of an agreement appeasing both sides.
why only PUV’s? why not include private motorists? the law applies to all, if not, none at all!!! pati yung mga ASBU, BUWISET, company delivery vans lang pinapara habang yung jeep dumadaan nagbubuga ng makapal na usok!!!! mga walang hiya kayo dyan!!!
