In the past few weeks, face-to-face classes have returned. With the return to F2F classes, some students and parents alike lamented having to spend once more for public transportation to get to and from school.
Luckily the Government wants to help.
Libre Sakay Program for students
According to the Department of Transportation (DOTr), starting today, students who need to use the LRT-2 line to get to their respective schools can ride for free. The reworked program will run until November 5, 2022.
Students can ride as early as 5:00 am, and ride as late as 9:00 pm (Antipolo Station) or 9:30 pm (Recto Station). The requirements they need to present to avail of the Libre Sakay program are either a valid school ID or an original registration form, which can be found at any Passenger Assistance Office (PAO) situated in LRT-2 stations.
So far the LRT-2 is the only public transportation option under the new Libre Sakay program. Hopefully, given the current traffic situation, the Government will see fit to widen the scope to other modes of public transportation.
