The all-new Honda Civic Type R (FL5) is the latest high-performance sedan making headways the world over. Critics have praised it as a huge leap forward for the Type R nameplate. Unfortunately, a setback has just occurred, and it’s one with safety concerns.
Honda Civic Type R Recall
It all started with some owners in the US complaining about a squeaking noise emanating from the red bucket seats of the Type-R. It may sound like nitpicking but apparently, the sound has been found to lead to a possible safety concern.
Upon further investigation, the sound stems from the seat frame construction or specifically the part that connects the bucket seat to the vehicle’s floorboard. The brand found the main culprit to be a faulty weld, which according to the service bulletin can disengage from the mount altogether in the event of an accident.
This has led US dealerships of Honda to suspend sales of the FL5 in the meantime and has also prompted the brand to issue a safety recall which involves the earliest models of the 2023 Type R.
What does this mean for the local owners of the Type R? HCPI has yet to issue any statement as to whether the local units are affected or not. This means that they are currently investigating the issue before making any statements, we do hope that the local units aren’t affected it would be a blow to the popularity of the model.
