Till Wartenberg, head of N Brand and Motorsport at Hyundai, expressed the company’s enthusiasm for returning to Pikes Peak with a groundbreaking vehicle. “Hyundai has a rich history of showcasing new technologies and products at Pikes Peak,” said Wartenberg. “The IONIQ 5 N exemplifies our commitment to high-performance electric cars, and we’re eager to demonstrate its capabilities on this iconic stage.”
The IONIQ 5 N will be piloted by two distinguished drivers: Paul Dallenbach, an eleven-time PPIHC winner, and Ron Zaras, a newcomer to the event but a seasoned motorsport enthusiast. Zaras, a former Hoonigan executive and media personality, shared his excitement about competing in the event. “Competing at Pikes Peak has been a lifelong dream for me,” said Zaras. “To do so with the support of Hyundai and to share my journey with fans is an incredible honor.”
In addition to the record-setting attempt, Hyundai will unveil a modified version of the IONIQ 5 N to compete at PPIHC before the ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring event on May 30. This modified model will be driven by Dani Sordo, a Spanish World Rally Championship driver, and Robin Shute, a four-time Pikes Peak winner.
The decision to pursue the Electric Production SUV/Crossover record with the IONIQ 5 N underscores Hyundai’s commitment to performance and innovation. The vehicle, which has undergone rigorous testing and development, features enhancements such as structural upgrades, World Rally Championship-inspired drive axles, and N-tuned brakes.
While minor updates were made to ensure compliance with safety regulations, the IONIQ 5 N remains largely unchanged from its standard counterpart. Future iterations will sport a vibrant Hyundai N livery, adding to the vehicle’s eye-catching appeal.
As the automotive industry continues to embrace electric power and performance, Hyundai’s participation in events like PPIHC serves as a testament to its leadership in innovation and motorsport excellence. With the IONIQ 5 N poised to make its mark on the legendary Pikes Peak course, enthusiasts and competitors alike eagerly await the showdown on June 23.
