Aston Martin Reveals the DB12; world’s first ‘Super Tourer’

Aston Martin as a brand has been known to create some of the world’s best ‘Grand Tourers’ (GT). These vehicles are designed to devour the miles effortlessly while you’re cocooned in a luxurious cabin that’s wrapped in a gorgeous exterior and hurtled along by a creamy smooth but powerful engine.

Not content with just GT cars though, the brand is taking it to the next level; meet the all-new DB12 Super Tourer.

Aston Martin DB12

The “DB” moniker is reserved usually for the Halo Aston vehicles and the DB12 is no exception, the brand says that this is the most “complete and accomplished DB” model ever.

Despite the name, though there is no mention of a V12 option, currently, the engine being offered is a reworked AMG-sourced 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that makes 671 PS and 800 Nm of torque. The new coupe has a 0-60 mile-per-hour sprint of just 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 202 mph.

A lot of important revisions were also made to the V8 engine to make it more capable than before. Including modified cam profiles, optimized compression ratios, larger diameter turbochargers, and improved cooling. The DB12 is also the first DB model to feature an electronic rear differential, that can fully lock to fully open in just a matter of milliseconds. That V8 engine is matted with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The brand has also beefed up the suspension by introducing its next-generation adaptive dampers and stiffer anti-roll bars. There are three driving modes GT, Sport, and Sport+, with escalating responsiveness and stiffness.

In terms of looks the DB12 still looks familiar to the DB11, having a revised front fascia dominated by a giant grille flanked by new LED headlights. Above the grille is the latest iteration of Aston Martin’s emblem, while below the grille is a completely reshaped splitter. Inside the DB12 gets newer and more premium Alcantara leather and an all-new infotainment system.

The Aston Martin DB12 will be rolling off the production line by the 3rd quarter of this year, with the exact pricing details to be revealed closer to the date.
