BMW Philippines launches all-electric 2022 iX model

Suffice it to say, the BMW iX is a head-turner, in a striking and imposing way. Its design is far from subtle, and the iX is eager to show that it’s no ordinary BMW. The iX features the striking (but controversial) “Kidney Lung” grille found in most BMWs these days and is flanked by sharp LED headlights and below feature blue accents that showcase its eco-minded nature.

The body structure, design principle, and chassis of the BMW iX are geared toward blending superb ride comfort and being able to provide sporty handling characteristics as well. The aluminum spaceframe construction and the use of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) in the roof and at the sides and rear result in a mix that increases rigidity while keeping the weight low. The optimized aerodynamic properties that contribute to the car’s drag coefficient of just 0.25 also have a positive impact on efficiency.

Inside the BMW iX, you get a 12.3-inch information display for the driver and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment display for the entertainment features. In addition, smartphone integration apps such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come as standard, there’s also a storage for wireless charging. The audio system is courtesy of a Harman Kardon surround-sound system.

Now for the all-electric powertrain, the iX has BMW’s fifth-generation eDrive technology that puts out 326 PS and 630 Nm of torque. Because it’s an xDrive40 model, the local iX is an all-wheel-drive vehicle. BMW says the iX can travel up to 372 km on a single charge.

The iX also has cruise control with a braking function together with a front collision warning system. Lastly, there’s park assist with front and rear park distance control (PDC). A total of five cameras, five radar sensors, and 12 ultrasonic sensors are used to monitor the vehicle’s surroundings.

The BMW iX is now available for pre-orders locally, prospective buyers will have to shell out PHP 6,290,000. Worried about charging? BMW has you covered, with every purchase of the iX comes with a wall box charger that will be installed in the customer’s home and a portable charger. The warranty for the iX is a 5-year BMW factory warranty, 8-year high-voltage battery warranty, and 6-year BMW service inclusive warranty.
