BMW has announced the limited production of the BMW Skytop, a two-seater roadster that blends the brand’s renowned driving pleasure with an elegant, precision-crafted design. Revealed initially as the BMW Concept Skytop at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2024 in Italy, the overwhelming response led BMW to produce just 50 units.
Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW Group Design head, made the announcement in Milan, where the Skytop design was once again on display. According to van Hooydonk, all 50 units of the Skytop were reserved by collectors and enthusiasts shortly after the announcement. “The BMW Skytop is a unique blend of dynamic performance and refined elegance,” he said.
The Skytop follows in the footsteps of BMW’s recent exclusive releases, like the limited-run BMW 3.0 CSL, also capped at 50 units. The Skytop draws inspiration from BMW’s legendary roadsters, including the BMW 507 and Z8. Its sculpted body, featuring a distinctive arrow-shaped hood and shark-nose design, pays homage to the brand’s roadster heritage.
Under the hood, the Skytop is powered by a 4.4-liter V8 engine, delivering 625 hp and paired with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. The car features BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system, allowing it to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in approximately 3.3 seconds.
The Skytop’s design is both sleek and modern, with details such as a pronounced spline running from the hood to the trunk and unique winglet door handles. The LED headlights and taillights, custom-designed for this model, feature slim profiles, enhancing its futuristic look.
If you are wondering why the interior is very similar to the BMW 8-Series it is based on, it’s because it is, but with more premium materials. Inside, the Skytop exudes luxury with leather-trimmed seats, a leather-wrapped soft-top roof, and high-quality craftsmanship throughout. The car also includes advanced technology like the BMW Live Cockpit Professional and a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System, ensuring an immersive driving experience.
Only 50 units have been produced, and the BMW Skytop is set to be a collector’s item. It combines performance, exclusivity, and timeless design.
