In a celebration of Bugatti’s rich racing heritage, the marque has unveiled the Chiron Super Sport “Hommage T50S,” a bespoke creation inspired by one of its earliest Le Mans contenders, the Type 50S. This homage to history pays tribute to the brand’s inaugural moments at the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans race, marking a significant milestone in Bugatti’s storied legacy.
Back in 1931, Bugatti made its official factory debut at Le Mans with the Type 50S, a car that laid the groundwork for future triumphs on the Circuit de la Sarthe. Fast forward to 2024, and Bugatti’s latest Sur Mesure creation, the Chiron Super Sport “Hommage T50S,” draws inspiration from this pioneering vehicle, blending nostalgia with cutting-edge automotive engineering.
At the heart of this tribute is chassis number 50177, which graced the tracks of Le Mans in 1931, adorned with the iconic number ‘5.’ This historic car served as the muse for the Chiron Super Sport, guiding the creative journey of both Bugatti’s designers and the discerning customer behind the project.
The design of the Chiron Super Sport pays homage to its predecessor with a bold, upright grille featuring a repeating square pattern reminiscent of the Type 50S. The grille, meticulously engineered for aerodynamic efficiency and cooling, proudly displays the painted number ‘5’ at its center, echoing the spirit of Le Mans racing.
Finished in a striking black hue, the Chiron Super Sport bears the Le Mans 1931 script and a representation of the Circuit de la Sarthe, meticulously integrated into its design. Every detail, from the engine-turned ornamental pattern known as “Perlée” to the hand-applied Le Mans tribute on the door panels, reflects Bugatti’s commitment to craftsmanship and heritage.
Jascha Straub, Lead Designer Sur Mesure at Bugatti, expressed the privilege of collaborating with a passionate customer to honor the Type 50S legacy. “He and I spoke for hours, over many months, about the ways that we could create an authentic tribute, obsessing over every detail to ensure it was consistent with the Type 50S story,” said Straub.
Hendrik Malinowski, Managing Director of Bugatti Automobiles, emphasized the significance of the Type 50S and praised the Sur Mesure team for delivering a personalized project of co-creation. “It’s not just a modern-day design homage but a continuation of a story that began nearly a century ago,” remarked Malinowski.
The Chiron Super Sport “Hommage T50S” represents more than just a car; it symbolizes Bugatti’s unwavering commitment to excellence and its enduring legacy on the racetrack. As Bugatti continues to push the boundaries of automotive innovation, this tribute serves as a reminder of the brand’s illustrious past and its relentless pursuit of perfection.
