After numerous previews and public displays, Hyundai Motor Philippines (HMPH) finally made the all-new Santa Fe available in the local market. Now in its 5th generation, the Korean brand’s newest mid-size SUV has gained a lot of interest since it was first shown off to the public last year, and now, the wait is finally over for everyone waiting for its official release.
5th generation Hyundai Santa Fe, 3 variants for now, 4th Hybrid option to come later this year
To say that the evolution of the Santa Fe across 5 generations has been radical may be an understatement. Radically different from its predecessors, this newest model, with its “Open For More” concept, takes its key from the wide tailgate opening and with its “terrace-like living space to provide plenty of room and seamless transition between urban life and the great outdoors”. This marks its first full-model change since 2018.
The exterior of the Santa Fe is now notably boxier. It now measures 45mm longer and 95mm higher with the wheelbase extended by 50mm and the tailgate 145mm wider so that interior space is maximized both for passengers or loads. Despite its shape, the angled side mirrors, active air flaps in both the top and bottom of the front bumper, skid plates on the front and rear bumpers, and a spoiler at the rear have all been strategically placed to improve driving comfort and fuel efficiency.
H-shaped elements are evident throughout the exterior such as the LED horizontal lamp with daytime running lights (DRL), front bumper garnish, and front grille, as well as rear taillights. These are carried over to the inside specifically the front dashboard’s mood lights and aircon vents and the stitching of the seats. This motif is a reinterpretation of Hyundai’s ‘H’ emblem made to complement the all-new Santa Fe’s new design identity.
Inside you will find that the Sante Fe has a refined and up-scale interior in contrast to its bold exterior. With Hyundai’s “plus alpha” space experience, this new mid-size SUV connects outdoor-indoor living.
The dashboard is equipped with a 12.3-inch panoramic curved display for the instrument cluster and infotainment screen, and to its left is a fingerprint recognition system that is easy to use and more importantly secure. Toward the right, you’ll find a UV-C sterilization tray on top of the glove box. On the center stack, there is a full-touch climate control panel and a dual wireless charging pad. The Santa Fe still comes with 6 USB-C ports and a 12-volt socket.
Seat Memory and customization are available, and the fully foldable second and third-row seats make it possible for users to repurpose it as a cargo bed whether for groceries, home projects, sports, and recreation, or camping trips.
Powering the Santa Fe across the current range is a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine mated to an 8-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission. The transmission uses a column-type shift by wire system, similar to that of Hyundai’s EVs the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6. Equipped with Hyundai Traction (HTRAC) and the brand’s All-Wheel Drive (AWD), there is a total of 8 drive modes available: Normal, Eco, Sport, Smart, Auto, Sand, Mud and Snow. Power is rated at 281 HP and torque at an impressive 422 Nm.
Safety and Driver Assist features that come standard include the driver, passenger, side, and curtain airbags, as well as the brand’s suite of safety features called the Hyundai SmartSense. The Santa Fe also has Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Forward Collision Avoidance, Lane Following and Keeping, Blindspot View Monitor, Reverse Parking Collision Avoidance, Parking Distance Warning, Manual Speed Limit, Rear Occupant Alert, and Surround View Monitor.

“The wait is over, we are excited to be offering the much-anticipated All-New Santa Fe to our Filipino customers. This model holds a special place in Hyundai’s history books as it is actually our first ever in-house SUV. It has been serving as the centerpiece of the brand’s growing SUV portfolio and has sold over million units as well as gained a loyal following globally,” said Dongwook Lee, President of HMPH.
“Over the course of 23 years, the Santa Fe has always progressed with the times by incorporating modern design philosophies and trends. And this 5th generation is no different as it embodies our commitment to continuously innovate how we can cater to our new era of customers and their lifestyles,” Lee added.
With the current 3-variant line, HMPH has also confirmed that a Hybrid option for the Santa Fe will arrive in the second half of 2024. No specifications have been given about the Hybrid, but we’re pretty sure that it will be based on the current top-of-the-line Calligraphy variant, plus maybe a few more goodies to sweeten the deal.
Who’s excited about these 3 Hyundai Santa Fe models? We are. Are we more excited about the Hybrid? Most definitely.
