Jaguar has announced the new Type 01, a four-door luxury GT that marks the start of a new era for the brand as it transitions to an all-electric lineup.

The Type 01 name reflects the model’s role in Jaguar’s future direction. According to the company, the “0” stands for electric propulsion and zero tailpipe emissions, while the “1” identifies it as the first model in Jaguar’s next-generation range. The vehicle has been designed, developed, and built in the United Kingdom.
Jaguar said the new model combines the brand’s traditional focus on performance and refinement with a new body architecture and an electric powertrain. The Type 01 will use a tri-motor setup producing more than 1,000 PS and over 1300 Nm of torque.

The “Type” naming convention also references Jaguar’s history. The designation first appeared on the Le Mans-winning C-Type race car in 1951 and later came to be associated with models such as the E-Type and F-TYPE, which combined performance with comfort and usability.
According to Jaguar Managing Director Rawdon Glover, the Type 01 represents a complete reset for the brand while still drawing inspiration from Jaguar’s heritage.
“We have reimagined Jaguar for a new era, with inspiration from what has gone before,” Glover said. “Our engineers have achieved this with a vehicle that looks and drives like no other electric car, yet reflects a unique provenance.”

Jaguar also confirmed that Type 01 prototypes will appear on the streets of Monaco wearing camouflage wraps ahead of the Formula E race weekend, during which Jaguar TCS Racing will compete.
The production version of the Jaguar Type 01 is scheduled to be revealed later this year. Jaguar said its design, technology, and driving dynamics will influence future models in the brand’s lineup.
