The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is making moves against online phishing scammers and unruly motorists. In a bid to get on top of these 2 main problems, the transport agency is giving the public an avenue to help them with the launch of the “Aksyon On the Spot” hotline.
LTO Aksyon On The Spot Hotline
In a press release posted on the agency’s official Facebook page, they highlighted the following:
Amid the proliferation of online scams, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has launched a hotline that will receive all the complaints that include phishing scams by cybercriminals who impersonate the agency in sending fake traffic violations.
Phishing scam is the practice of sending emails or text messages purportedly from companies and government agencies. In most cases, the message contains a link that would expose personal information on the target victims once clicked.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II will not only cater to phishing scam but also abusive and erring motorists on the roads.
Mendoza said the hotline is aimed at ensuring quick response from the government against erring motorists in line with the instruction of Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista to ensure safety of all road users.
Dubbed as “Aksyon on the Spot”, road users are encouraged to send SMS (short messaging system) to 09292920865 if they cross paths with abusive or erring motorists on the road.
Assec Mendoza said they will be distributing “Aksyon on the Spot” stickers to motorists, especially those who will be renewing the license registration of their respective motor vehicles.
The purpose, he said, is to take advantage of the feature of the hotline which also carries a QR code that will provide access to the complainants to formally lodge their complaints.
“We encourage the public to inform us of any abusive behaviors on the road at kami na po ang bahala sa aksyon,” he added.
Assec Mendoza said they will coordinate with other law enforcement agencies to strengthen the enforcement and other law enforcement actions that will be received through the “Aksyon on the Spot” hotline.
