Mercedes-AMG unveils the CLE 53 Coupé with mild-hybrid power and rear-axle steering

Mercedes-AMG is elevating its product portfolio with the introduction of the new CLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé, a dynamic blend of sportiness and elegance that aims to redefine the entry-level performance coupé segment. Combining the agility of the C-Class with the spaciousness and prestige of the E-Class, this two-door marvel boasts a thoroughly enhanced 3.0-liter six-cylinder in-line engine, now generating an impressive 449 hp and a maximum torque of 560 Nm with an additional 600 Nm with the overboost function for 12 seconds. The integrated starter generator provides an additional 23 hp of power and 205 Nm of torque, contributing to the performance and efficiency of the vehicle.

Visually, the coupé features iconic design elements, including a long hood with powerful power domes, a sloping windshield, and an elongated roof that slopes towards the rear. The distinctive front section, characterized by the “Shark Nose” and AMG-specific A-shaped radiator grille, exudes a sporty and elegant demeanor. Optional DIGITAL LIGHT headlights with projection function and a variety of exterior packages, such as the AMG Optics package, further enhance the aesthetic appeal.

The interior is equally captivating, with unique equipment, exclusive materials, and the latest MBUX infotainment system. Notable features include a 12.3-inch fully digital driver display, an 11.9-inch driver-oriented central display, dynamic ambient lighting with 64 colors, and integral seats in ARTICO man-made leather/MICROCUT black microfiber with AMG-specific graphics. The AMG performance steering wheel in a double-spoke design, equipped with seamlessly integrated buttons, adds to the overall driving experience.

Under the hood, the CLE 53 4MATIC+ packs a punch with its upgraded 3.0-liter M 256 inline six-cylinder turbo engine, now known as the M 256M. The engine boasts optimized combustion chambers, redesigned channels, new piston rings, and a new exhaust gas turbocharger. With the addition of the electric compressor, boost pressure increases to 1.5 bar, delivering a continuous torque of 560 Nm and a peak torque of 600 Nm during overboost for up to 12 seconds.

The AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission ensures smooth and efficient power delivery, allowing for quick reactions and multiple downshifts. The AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving programs, including “Slippery,” “Comfort,” “Sport,” “Sport+,” and “Individual,” enable drivers to tailor the driving characteristics to their preferences.

The CLE 53 4MATIC+ comes equipped with the fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system, providing optimal traction and driving safety. The AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension, AMG DYNAMICS driving dynamics control system, and three-stage AMG speed-sensitive steering contribute to the vehicle’s agility, cornering behavior, and traction.

For enthusiasts seeking an even more exhilarating driving experience, the optional AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package offers sporty equipment details, including the RACE driving program with Drift Mode. The package highlights include red-painted brake calipers, an AMG performance steering wheel in MICROCUT microfiber, and active engine mounts for a customizable engine-body connection.

With a nod to both performance and style, the new CLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé is set to redefine expectations in the entry-level performance coupé segment. There is no word yet if this model will arrive in the Philippines, but we are hopeful that it will arrive in our shores sooner rather than later.
