MIAS 2025: GWM launches updated Cannon

GWM Philippines has officially launched the facelifted GWM Cannon at the 2025 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), presenting a more powerful and advanced version of its flagship pickup truck. Known as the No. 1 pickup truck brand in China, with a 50% market share, GWM aims to raise the standards for pickups in the Philippine market.

The New GWM Cannon features an upgraded 2.4-liter turbo diesel engine, now delivering 181 horsepower and 480 Nm of torque—a 13% increase in power and 20% improvement in torque compared to its predecessor. It is paired with a refined 9-speed automatic transmission, offering better acceleration, handling, and towing performance. Fuel efficiency has also improved by 10%.

Equipped with a Torque On Demand (TOD) Intelligent Permanent 4×4 System, the Cannon is built for various terrains. Its high-strength steel frame enhances safety and structural durability. The vehicle also boasts a 5-star ANCAP safety rating, positioning it as one of the safest pickups in its category.

Inside is where GWM got to work. Not only are there a lot more soft touch points found around the cabin, but the overall design was heavily updated as well. It’s nearly night and day compared to the pre-facelift version.

Two variants will be available:

Despite significant enhancements, GWM Philippines maintains the price range from the previous model, reinforcing its value-for-money proposition.

The new interior features voice control, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and ventilated seats. It will be available in familiar color options: Atlantis Blue, Pittsburgh Silver, Iceberg White, Midnight Black, and Scarlet Red.

GWM remains the only Chinese pickup truck brand in the Philippines offering a 7-year warranty. To celebrate the launch, the first 100 customers to reserve a unit at MIAS will receive a free 5-year Periodic Maintenance Service (PMS) package. Vehicle deliveries are set to begin in June 2025.

“The New GWM Cannon reflects our promise to deliver global innovation tailored for the local market,” said Dax Avenido, Brand Head and Marketing Director of GWM Philippines.

Visitors can view and test drive the New GWM Cannon at the GWM booth during MIAS 2025 at the World Trade Center from April 10 to 13.
