MMDA might rework number coding scheme

The Metro Manila Council (MMC) has voted and recommended to downgrade NCR to Alert Level 1 starting March 1. In line with this, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) are studying the possibility of expanding the number coding scheme in anticipation of a higher traffic volume.

MMDA officer-in-charge chairman Romando Artes did say however, that an expended number coding scheme will not be immediately imposed should the March 1 switch be approved.

Artes said during a press briefing that the MMDA are still studying whether to expand the number coding hours from 7:00am t0 9:00am and 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Artes further added that, the MMDA plan to study first the traffic flow and volume once the alert level has been de-escalated, citing also that as of now NCR is still short on public transportation options.

Based on traffic enforcers on the ground, Artes said while slow to moderate traffic build up on certain roads are happening, it is only isolated to specific hours of the day.

The MMDA is set to meet with the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Land Transportation and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to prepare for the possible Alert Level 1 implementation.
